The Mad River Valley

The Mad River Valley (known locally as simply "the Valley") is a year 'round Vermont destination. Famous for its world-class skiing and snowboarding, cool, lush summers and spectacular fall foliage, the Valley is synonymous with classic Vermont. The Valley itself is made up of 4 towns: Warren, Waitsfield, Fayston and Moretown.

White steepled churches, towering green mountains, and bright blue skies is what many think of when they think of Vermont, and that is exactly what you get in the Mad River Valley.

Here you will discover many shops and galleries, numerous bed and breakfasts', as well as many places to eat to suit every budget, from classic French cuisine to burgers and fries.

Motorcycling in the Valley

For the motorcycling enthusiast, you won't find a better destination than the Mad River Valley. The Valley has some of the finest roads for motorcycling, including Routes 100 and 17, considered by many to be the premiere motorcycling roads in New England.

Route 100 travels straight through the heart of the Valley and is a perfect way to enjoy the incredible beauty the Valley offers. It also follows the Mad River, a swiftly moving, trout-filled river with many swimming holes to cool off in.

From Route 100 one can hop onto Route 17 for an amazing run up the Appalachian Gap. This favorite among motorcyclists is a long and twisty road that takes one up General Stark Mountain with spectacular views of the Mad River Valley.

On the way up, stop by Mad River Glen, one of the oldest ski areas in the U.S. and home to the famous "single-chair" chairlift.
